Vancouver art gallery programs




















The Vancouver Art Gallery School Programs provide exhibition tours and workshops designed for elementary and secondary school groups. These programs introduce tools to foster visual literacy in students and to promote critical thinking about the world around us.

Registration will open in September. We plan to resume on-site programming in January This fall we are booking virtual School Tours for a minimum of 10 individual classes per elementary school.

Please check with your PAC to see if they can help provide funding for all classes to participate. Secondary classes can book on an individual basis. The Self-Guided Visit consists of a class navigating any open exhibition space in the gallery. Open to elementary, secondary and post-secondary school groups. Please check-in at the Admissions Desk when you arrive. Lockable bins will be provided for students' belongings at coat check.

If you are bringing several classes of 30 students, please book as many arrival times as you need. For all booking inquiries, please contact Susan Rome at srome vanartgallery. Guided tours are an excellent educational experience for post secondary students. The Gallery's rotating exhibitions of historical and contemporary art provide unique opportunities to enhance a range of studies from fashion, visual art, art history, graphic design, history, visual culture and architecture, among many others.

Watch Now. The Vancouver Art Gallery is wheelchair accessible. Street-level access is available through the Robson Street entrances. The Hornby Street doors are currently closed due to city street construction.

Wheelchairs are available to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis, or can be reserved in advance by calling A Service Animal may accompany visitors to all public areas of the Gallery. If you require additional assistance, please let a Security Guard or volunteer in the lobby know when you arrive, and we will arrange an escort through the Annex elevator.

Please call Schnurr said the timeline for the new facility is somewhat open, but he expects that construction will be completed by the summer of ArtOpens pic. So what will happen to the former courthouse at Hornby when the VAG moves to its swanky new residence? Renowned Vancouver architect Arthur Erickson was commissioned to redesign the former courthouse, while also designing the new court complex down the street.

The building was recognized as a historic site in , shortly after the private non-profit organization that runs the Gallery took up residence. There are rumours that the University of British Columbia, with their Robson campus right next door, might take over the space as an arts and culture education centre.

Perhaps even more important to the ethos of the downtown core are the public square and plaza to the north and south of the Art Gallery.
